Quijotetours Spring Itinerary to Extremadura

Spend your first day visiting the Jerte Valley (in Spanish "Valle del Jerte", where encompassing the cities of Tornavacas, Jerte, Cabezuela del Valle and el Piornal). You'll want to make time to bathe in the marveoulous natural pool called Hell Canyon("la garganta de los infiernos") or the throat of hell. When hunger strikes, you'll taste typical products in Piornal, before spending the rest of the afternoon visiting the towns of Hervas, De la Olla Canyon (called "Garganta de la Olla") in the Ambroz Canyon (called "Valle de Ambroz").

Onday two, you musn't miss the Monfrague National Park and Las Dehesas, ideally on a 4x4 tour through the forest.

Day Three, will be spent visiting the quaint villages of Las Hurdes (Vegas de Coria, Rubiaco, Casar de Palomero, Zarza de Granadilla, Granadilla, Las mestas…). Stop for an afternoon meal, or shop for local wares. In the afternoon you can relax on the banks of the meandering river "Meandro del Melero"!!.

On day four, what about traveling to the most easternly point of the Central System Mountain before reaching Spain's border with France? The Sierra de Gata is home to many mountain villages (Villa de gata, Robledillo de gata, Villamiel, San Martin de Trevejo, Trevejo) that are well worth a visit. For a real treat, spend the night in a treehouse up in the mountain.

On your five last day, it is time to make your return flight home. But before you go, be sure to stop by Plasencia and the region of La Vera (Villanueva de la Vera, Losar de la Vera, Jarandilla de la vera, Valverde de la vera; Pasaron de la vera;) …..you'll want to stock up on the spanish highly-regarded paprika for friends and family, the local speciality !!

Travel trips from quijotetours:

The most comfortable form of transportation for this trip would be by self-drive in your own or a hired vehicle, or by private coach. We don't recommend public transportation in this situation due to time constraints and complicated connections.

For your accommodation: If you plan on packing light, you may wish to stay in a different hotel or bed & breakfast each night at the end of your drive to avoid retracing your steps. However if you are bringing heavy luggage, you can stay in one centrally located hotel for the duration of the trip, as the distance to each destination is not excessive. Plasencia would be the ideal jumping off point if you prefer to be close to restaurants and shops. Or if you prefer to get away from the noise, we can recommend a country villa in one of the surrounding villages with a full kitchen, or a bed & breakfast (we don't recommend full room and board as you would have to miss the dinner).
